Step 15 - Fenders, Tires and Rims
Now comes the fun part, Fenders and tires. First let's start with the fenders. Our kits all come with a basic fender and tire setup. See picture on Step 1. If you plan on doing a lot of travelling you don't want to go any smaller then a 12 inch tire. 8 Inch is capable of handling your trailer, but the smaller the tire the more rotations. This means your wheel bearings get warmer.
When it comes to the rims, bolt pattern and fenders It's really just a matter of choice and how much you want to spend on it. From this point on, it's all a matter of making the tear drop trailer your own. One last thing. Before you go anywhere, make sure you have a spare tire and the tools to change it.
The last thing you want, is to be on a long awaited trip, get a flat and nowhere to find a spare. Now that you have your new tear drop trailer, have you ever considered solar panels ?... Check out my blog on the topic
Step 16 - The Screen & Bedroom Drawer
When camping you always need A good screen to keep out all those mosquitoes at night and a nice size drawer to keep all those important camping items close by. Batteries, cards, candles, etc. Or maybe you just want to use it for those freshly washed camping clothes. The screen and the drawer are not included in the kit. This part of the build really boils down to preference. Some people like the kitchen area and the sleeping area totally seperate from each other. If you want a screen I suggest you find some good trim for your screen first, screen can be found at any local dollar store. cut your wood trim on 90 degree angles. Your width is 46 1/2 inches (or 581/2 for 5x8 ) and height should be approx 9 inches. Cut to size. Tape your screen around the rectangular trim, then install two handles on either side of your trim to easily install or remove screen.
The drawer is approx 46 inches or 58 for the 5 x 8. Home depot has 14 in. Self-Closing Drawer Slides (2-Pack) that enable you to put together a functioning kitchen cabinet drawer that holds up to 100 lb. The pack contains 2 slides and the needed hardware. The slides are designed for easy installation. Install a handle in the middle of your drawer and your done. One thing to remember when installing your drawer, also install a child proof latch underneath. This way when you're travelling your drawer doesn't fly open.
